Mantra Discovery: Become One With

The Royal We

Life without purpose is pointless. Nobody has the authority to dictate any person’s purpose but themselves. So it’s up to every one person to lead their way. I often refer to myself with a “we”, like I am working alongside myself to accomplish my goals. Different executive functions operate independently of each other, and my body is a tool for those functions to leverage so they may accomplish their goals/objectives. So when I am operating effectively, “we” are doing well. All instruments of my orchestra are tuned and playing in time, a beautiful symphony. A symphony of sympathy.

Mantra Discovery

In my yoga class, the instructor taught us about mantra. What it means in Sanskrit, and why it’s important for a practicing yogic. I took some time to think about what my mantra is, serious thought went into this discovery. One day, whilst riding my bike, I felt strangely connected to the steel and rubber. The way the pedals turned, the translation of power into movement, the realization that the destination was just a stop along the Journey. The following evening, behind the wheel of my Miata, the same feeling came over me, then it came to me. My mantra was spoken aloud by an often muted executive function deep within myself, “Become One With the Car”. The moment I brought the car into the “we”, everything changed, we felt all right. We felt as one.

Togetherness

Whether I am biking, driving, hiking, golfing, lifting, cooking, eating, even resting, to become one with the tool or environment I find myself in brings serenity and focus. No longer am I driving the car, we are driving. No longer am I hitting a golf ball, we are golfing. I’m not riding a skateboard, we are skateboarding. Togetherness.

Become One With Another?

What more can I become one with? Other people? Perhaps that’s the most difficult “thing” to integrate into “we”. Electromagnetism tells me polarity disallows certain things from joining together. Is it possible that I’ll be unable to integrate with everything? Will it be impossible to Become One With anything? Possibly. Worth trying to find out, I’d say.

Where is my Mind?

What a strange mindfulness strategy: hey you random inanimate object, want to morph into my metaphysical person so that I may better be? God, I’m a fucking weirdo. We gotta figure out how to be more proud of that. Because I genuinely feel like that’s a good thing. Cue The Pixies, “Where is my mind?”
